London 2012 Olympic Construction Contractors - at it again?

March 3rd, 2006 at 04:59am Sean Delaney - Iasta UK

In an Article in The Times it was estimated that price fixing and collusion by contractors doubled the cost of the 2004 Olympics in Greece to £9bn.

The London 2012 Olympic procurement agency responsible for placing some 20,000 contracts for the Games has adopted a novel approach to stamp out any collusion. All suppliers will have to complete a non-collusive certificate and if involved will be disqualified or sued. Err shouldn’t this be happening anyway?

In addition the Office of Fair Trading has been given statutory powers to join M15 to go undercover to carry out “all kinds of different surveillance”. They are specifically relying on “Human Intelligence”. So they are involving James Bond as well!

Tell you what, why not use a World Class eSourcing suite? That way you can spot fixed bids immediately and document them. Also why not keep the events “rank only”. Oh, another idea, what about shortening the time frame for the bids to make it even more difficult to fix?

If that’s not enough at least you will have a fixed time frame in which to use surveillance making it much easier on your resources. So maybe James could do the Job on his own after all!
