The Key To Success
August 16th, 2006 at 06:33am David Bush - Iasta
The highlight of this month’s issue of Global Logistics & Supply Chain Strategies is Thomas A. Foster’s Secrets To Success in which he notes that the supply chains you participate in are increasingly interdependent. No single company can succeed unless all supply chain participants operate as one seamless entity. Given that our recent focus here on e-Sourcing Forum is Supply Risk Management and Supplier Performance Management, this article, and the need for strategic supplier relationships, should not go unmentioned.
This is a lengthy article (8 pages) that covers the top 100 supply chain partners for your organization, as nominated by readers, so I am not going to attempt to cover it all in this post. However, I do want to highlight not only the ten most common qualities that users look for in their vendors but the five additional qualities that are increasing in priority.
The ten most common qualities that users look for in their vendors are:
- Reliability
- Repeatable Excellence
- Value and Cost Savings
- Expertise and Knowledge Base
- Problem Solving Ability
- Continuous Improvement
- Support
- Positive Culture
- Global Capabilities
- Strong Management
Additional qualities that users look for in their vendors are:
- Process Focus
- Visibility
- Regulatory Compliance
- Integration Capabilities
- Growth Mandate
Note that today’s companies are becoming increasingly focused on process, visibility, and compliance. As the article starts off, the key to global business success today is all about strengthening the supply chain by working with the best “linking” partners. These partners will have good, efficient processes and provide you with visibility into key data and metrics in a timely manner. They will also assist you in complying with global health, security, and reporting regulations. Their systems will work with your systems, and they will work with you.
