Ignite, Improve, Change

Businesses face competition in many arenas, including innovation, customer loyalty, suppliers, market share, speed to market, price, and quality. Recognizing and abiding by the three cornerstones of competition will enable your company to succeed in all of these crucial facets.

Andrew Skaff, Spark the Competitive Fire, Inside Supply Management, August 2006, Vol 17, No 8

In the recent issue of Inside Supply Management, Andrew Skaff’s article Spark the Competitive Fire discusses three C’s that he is hailing as the cornerstones of competition:

  1. a complete resistance to Complacency,
  2. a dedication to Continuous improvement, and
  3. a commitment to Change.

The goal of the three C’s is to spawn competitive behavior that generates positive outcomes that allow your organization to perform at its maximum ability. The reasons for the objectives are that

  1. complacency often results in limiting goals or objectives,
  2. a lack of improvement while your competition improves will result in you falling behind, and
  3. constant change is required to resist complacency and initiate continuous improvement programs.

Furthermore, when you consider that the global sourcing market is becoming more competitive by the day while the tools and methodologies to support it are becoming more advanced, the advice is sound advice indeed for any procurement or sourcing organization.
