Illinois Tool Ware

I have to say, I did not see this coming. Illinois Tool Works is a $13 billion dollar diversified manufacturer that makes sweet products like the Paslode Nail Gun. So, this is where I find myself confused regarding why they would acquire Click Commerce. From the Chicago Sun Times, “Click Commerce makes software for demand chain management, real time RFID-enabled supply chain management and other functions. The company, based in Chicago, reported revenue of $74 million in the past 12 months.” ITW is not listed as a customer of Click Commerce on the home page, but I would not be surprised if there was a connection there.

Although not directly related to eSourcing/Supply Management, I found this news interesting. It is very surprising to see a well established manufacturing company to go long on a supply chain software company. Getting free seat licenses can only be part of the benefit, so ITW believes they can make money in this industry. It also will be fascinating to see if they are able to help the company with deeper pockets and operational excellence. I know ITW well and they keep a fairly decentralized structure, so I would not expect huge changes.
