I.A.S.T.A

Nope, its not an acronym. However, the question is asked so often that I will take a minute to explain:
What does Iasta mean? I have been asked this for years at the beginning and end of presentations or meetings. I guess the continued interest means we have a unique name that, at least garners attention and curiosity.
Back in 1999, when we were starting to plant the seeds that would become Iasta, I was looking to come up with some company names. Even back then, virtually anything that could be thought of about purchasing was already being used or squatted. In an effort to keep the name short, I went out and looked for some words in different languages that might be useful which is where I discovered that ASTA was translated from Italian–>English as Auction. Next step, we are doing all of this on the Internet and viola, the company is named…next order of business - go downtown and incorporate!
i + asta = internet auction
Since we did all the work ourselves, we did not have $1,000,000 dollars to give to a marketing firm that could have come up with some real winners like “Monday” or “Loudcloud”. I think we did pretty good with the name and still get many compliments on its originality. For a list of some of the better ones in recent history, check this.
